Intel’s Blogger meet-up in Karachi

Intel today organized a quick tech-blogger’s meetup at The Second Floor (T2F) in Karachi. The select gathering included some prominent technology bloggers based in the city and focused on Intel’s approach and plans in the coming few months and the next year in general.
The session began with (we hear) a quick introduction of the audience followed by a presentation by Mr. Naveed Siraj, Intel Pakistan’s Country Manager who oversees the overall business for Intel in Pakistan, including sales, channel marketing, business development and public/government relations.
During the session, he also shed some light on two major acquisitions of McAfee (a security solutions vendor) and Infineon’s Wireless solutions. He also spoke about the current Intel CORE processor family and the upcoming line of processors scheduled for 2011 codenamed ‘Sandy Bridge’ where Intel claims it will take visual effects and graphics to the next level including HD Video, stereoscopic 3D, mainstream gaming, multi-tasking, online socializing and multimedia content in general.
Focusing on its business plans, the company’s Country Manager also discussed the companies Cloud Computing plans and the Intel XEON 7500 processor series, which Intel claims represents the largest performance leap in Intel Xeon Processor history, providing up to 3 times more computing power compared to the current Intel Xeon 7400 series. Intel also announced the XEON 5600 processor series, a 32nm enterprise-class processor family providing data centers with a stronger foundation for cloud security and server virtualization.
Technology Trends’ Prediction for 2011:
Mr. Naveed Siraj presented the Intel 2011 predictions for technology trends where the company is of the opinion that technology in 2011 will be smarter, more powerful and more useful.
Intel expects Smart TV market will feel lucky in 2011 and that Tablet computing, irrespective of form factors and OS, will be around everywhere (the iPad and the Samsung Galaxy Tab are already in, with RIM planning to launch its own tablet in 2011). Intel also believes laptop sales will continue to grow in 2011 and that PCs and Smart Devices will be more “Context Aware” (Perceptual computing) where computers will leverage hard and soft sensor technologies. Intel also has, what they call, a ‘Sunny Forecast’ regarding Cloud and Virtualized Computing in 2011.
It was, however, disappointing to see that the computers and laptops on display at the meetup displayed the ‘This Windows is Not Genuine’ text on the bottom right which was not expected at all in something organized by one of the leading technology companies in the world.
